The Principles of Balance
Minimum Effective Dose (MED)
More is not always better, especially when it comes to exercise. A busy guy doesn’t have the time to spend countless hours in the weight room so creating a fitness lifestyle using the MED is critical to feeling, moving, and looking younger.
Consistency > Intensity
When it comes to losing the beer gut, consistency is king. Intensity gets likes on Instagram videos, but rarely can a guy with a job, 3 kids, and wife maintain it long enough to lose the DadBod. That’s where small, consistent changes win!
Better >Best
We live in the real world, with pizza, beer, and nights where we only get 4 hours of sleep because of a sick little one. So, perfection or ideal diets and training programs look great on paper, but won’t work for us. We need to focus on better, not best.
Expand > Contract
Fitness, eating healthy, losing the beer gut, and shedding the DadBod aren’t the end goals. They’re simply a means to an end – a better husband, father, and friend who is living a better life. That’s what all of this is about – being better.
The 3 Step K.I.S.S. Process
1. Be aware
If you don’t know, you don’t know. So, the first step is to know you’re unbalanced, and it’s so simple you won’t believe me at first, but I’ve had guys drop 30lbs+ just by doing this 5 minutes a day. Nothing else!
2. Eat
You know what I’m about to say – Abs are made in the kitchen. But…. it doesn’t have to be as hard or as limiting as you think. You can still enjoy pizza, beer, and the occasional ballpark nachos while using the principles above to improve your eating by over 80%.
3. Exercise
You don’t need 2-hour workouts, nor are you required to be so sore the next day you can’t sit on the toilet. Exercise, even when trying to lose the beer gut, can actually be enjoyable. And, it needs to be balanced between strength, hypertrophy, and endurance. So that means weights and cardio.
